Free Vector United States

January 25, 2012

Highly detailed vector maps of the United States for infographics or map work is difficult to find, and I was unable to find anything with enough detail online – so I created my own. You’d be hard pressed to find a more detailed Vectorized United States Map.

Supplied By The Government

I acquired the original, and very accurate, high quality PDF image from The United States National Atlas Website. I converted the PDF file to EPS, and from there, I cleaned up the paths and organized the layers. There are paths for the country’s outline, state boundaries, major bodies of water, and extra land masses such as islands.

Furthermore, they can be individually “turned off” or “turned on”, which makes for interesting ways to express regions or areas with data. Of course, you can do even more if you push this through Photoshop. This would be great for visualizing Census Data, or the upcoming 2012 Presidential Elections, or for your Geodata-driven App!

How Detailed Is It?

Chesapeake Bay in all its glory:

According to the National Atlas Website:

Data and information authored or produced by the USGS are in the public domain.

So I can release this to you free for personal or commercial use. Enjoy!
